WA EV Network

We’re building Australia’s longest connected
Electric Vehicle (EV) highway.

Project overview

As WA transitions to a cleaner, greener electric vehicle future, we’re building the supporting infrastructure to help open up our vast state to electric vehicles and electric cars.

We’re working with Synergy and the WA State Government to build Australia’s longest electric vehicle fast-charging network, from Kununurra in the north to Esperance, and as far as Eucla, in the south.

When complete, EV drivers will have access to 98 EV charging stations spread across 49 locations along major West Australian transport routes. The locations selected for the installation of fast charging infrastructure have been identified through the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategic Planning Report with input derived from Local Government Authorities and Regional Development Commissions.

What’s happening now?

The Electric Vehicle Action Plan

The electric vehicle highway is one part of the WA State Government’s Electric Vehicle Action Plan. The EV Action Plan provides an integrated set of actions designed to deliver a future where EVs contribute to a safe, reliable and efficient electricity system while accelerating our transition to a low-carbon future.

Charging an EV

We’re going to make it easy to understand how much it will cost to charge your EV at each of the stations. We’re working through what these costs look like right now, but you’ll be able to check the cost to charge before you charge.

Chargers under construction

We're currently building the EV network, and are over half-way complete. We expect the network to be finished before the end of 2024.

Construction of the network will create jobs, including in our regional areas. 

Connecting the regions

Our regional towns can access fast-charging stations along major travel routes, connecting the regions with city centres and tourism sites across WA.

Encouraging more EVs means less emissions for a cleaner, more sustainable future.  

Reduced costs

When managed correctly, EVs can help smooth demand on the power system and improve overall network utilisation, which could reduce costs for everyone.
